Apologies to our two loyal readers, who no doubt were eagerly anticipating the inaugural Playhouse of 2012 Sunday. The Crew, however, had other ideas after staying out late the night before. The did nothing yesterday, which would be fitting, because one could actually argue that they did close to nothing in all of 2011, finishing up the year seven games under .500 overall. We'd like to say that 2012 will be marketably different, but that's not likely to happen.
Couple thoughts/stats before the Super Play of the Day...
Since 2000, the Big Ten has won 39 percent of its bowl games and is just 6-12 in BCS games. Thankfully, we get to see five Big Ten teams play over the next two days...
Washington for some reason fired their defensive coaching staff Saturday. We haven't been able to independently confirm this, but it may have had something to do with them giving up 67 points and 777 yards against Baylor in the Alamo Bowl.
Incidentally, the Huskies, who scored 56 themselves, did not cover the nine-point spread. College underdogs scoring 56 points or more in non-OT games had been 56-0 ATS since 1980, according to RJ Bell of pregame.com. Talk about your bad beats...
There was an estimated $1 trillion gambled on sports world wide in 2011, according to our friends at wagerminds.com. That would fund military expenditures for every NATO country combined. But, it probably shouldn't be legalized nationwide and taxed...
Everyone is falling over themselves praising Drew Brees for breaking Dan Marino's passing yardage mark. Dan Fouts broke the NFL record three consecutive seasons!...
Super Play of the Day
The Crew is no fan of the Big Ten and because of some of the numbers cited above, there's reason to think Oregon will hammer Wisconsin today. The Crew, who has lived in Pac-12 country virtually their entire lives, would love it. We don't, however, see it happening. Teams with lots of time to prepare for the Ducks -- Lsu earlier this year, Auburn last season, Ohio State in the '10 Rose Bowl -- have had success corralling their offense. Take the Badgers +5
