The Crew had its first disappointing day in a while last Sunday, losing on the Super Play and posting an overall mark of 1-2. We fell victim to a very dubious late touchdown that allowed Oakland to cover the 7.5-point number in Denver against the Broncos. Still, the Super Play remains a very solid 15-8-2 for the year.

A couple of very abbreviated thoughts/stats before the Super Play of the Day ...

It's virtually impossible to feel empathy for anyone who made $2.3 million this year, and certainly Jeff Tedford, knowing the precarious nature of his profession, had to realize that his time at Cal had probably run out. Still, it's somewhat baffling that the university could shutter perhaps its most accomplished coach in history earlier this week.

Let's not forget what Tedford inherited in 2001 when he arrived in Berkeley: a terrible football program coming off a 1-10 season and high-school quality facilities that included an aging stadium on the brink of collapse. From there he guided Cal to a 67-35 record over the next eight years, including a 10-1 regular season in 2004, when the Bears played eventual national champion USC to a virtual standstill and were ultimately robbed by the BCS, which awarded a Rose Bowl bid to Vince Young and Texas, who were far less deserving.

Over the last three seasons the Bears haven't been as good, as everyone knows. Cal basically reverted back to being Cal, going 15-32 since 2010, including a 3-9 mark this year. With the heightened expectations, which ironically were only put in place by Tedford's own unparalleled success at the school, the slide proved too much to overcome.

So it will be the next Cal coach, whoever it is, reaping the benefits of a 21-month, $320 million project to improve the university's football facilities -- an enterprise that would have been unthinkable 11 years ago. Make no mistake, we don't weep for Tedford, who made millions coaching and will have no problem finding an offensive coordinator job next season if he wants one. But dude deserved to see his experiment at Cal play out, at least another year...

GameDay searched Los Angeles far and wide for a celebrity picker -- and arrived, of course, at Landon Donovan, who, incidentally, is the first such picker to make Desmond Howard look competent ...

Very surprising news this morning out of Fayatteville, Ark., where it appears John L Smith will not get a chance to repair the great damage he has unleashed on the Arkansas football program since Bobby Petrino drove a motorcycle and woman more that half his age who was not his wife into a hole last summer ...

Within this story about Johnny Football, you'll find out that his grandfather was apparently once a cock fighting world champion. Of course he was ...

Brady Hoke is an asshole. It's 32 degrees, dog. Getting pneumonia isn't being a man. It's called acting like a dick. Put on a coat ...

Probably our favorite picture of the year. As ASU alums, the expressions on the STD-riddled faces of these Arizona students are heartbreaking...
