MARCH 31, 2009

Man, March could not end soon enough. It was, in fact, the worst month we have ever endured here at the Playhouse. Nothing seemed to go right, not hoops or NASCAR.

April is a new beginning, full of renewed hopes and infinite opportunity. Translation: Baseball season has arrived. It's perhaps the crew's best sport in terms of handicapping and with games everyday, there is never a dull moment. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, I'd be remiss if I didn't comment on T-Town's collective fantasy that Rick Pitino is set to leave Louisville and his $2 million salary to set up shop in Tucson.

Aside from Louisville being a better, more lucrative job, the reasons Pitino won't be the coach at UofA next year are infinite. Since I have a job, however, here's just a few:

For one, Pitino is a major investor in the horse game, and unless the facilities at Rialto Park have been upgraded recently, Louisville figures to be a better place to run a lucrative stable.

Secondly, the university has named a dorm after his brother-in-law and best friend, Billy Minardi, who perished in the Sept. 11 attacks at the World Trade Center.

And, finally, Pitino has a foundation in Kentucky dedicated to his late son, Daniel, who died of heart disease in 1987 at the age of six months.

To say, therefore, that he is invested in the community would be an understatement. He's not coming to UofA and has probably never spent six seconds seriously considering it.

It's a good job, not a great one, Tucson. Mark Few would be an outstanding hire and about the best the school could do considering the team it has coming back next season.
