Mailbag

No mail. Very disappointing, especially considering we have given out five winners in a row. Apparently you folks don't like money.

Super Play of the Day

The last time Oregon went on the road, they got blitzed by Stanford, who ran right at the quick but relatively small Duck defense. Arizona can't do that, and instead will rely on on lot of screens and three-step drops. Oregon is well suited for that. Look for the Ducks to make enough plays on defense and the Jeremiah Masoli-led offense to continue to put up huge numbers. Oregon -6.

Other plays

Air Force +9.5
Oregon St. -30
Arkansas -11.5

Most absurd thing of the week

UNLV head coach Mike Sanford, who was 15-43 in his four plus seasons, doing his best Baghdad Bob impression after he was fired on Monday: "I do not for one second believe that I failed in this pursuit."

Second most absurd thing of the week

Florida and Alabama testing themselves by scheduling Florida International and Chattanooga in the third week of November.

Best one liner of the week

A nameless member of the staff saying Tennessee "got beat like they stole something" after they fell to Mississippi, 42-17. Three Volunteers were arrested for attempted armed robbery in the days leading up to the game.

Reason no. 234 why Dick Vitale should not be taken seriously

During ESPN's draft coverage last summer, Vitale openly questioned Brandon Jennings' decision a year ago to bail on the University of Arizona to play in Europe, telling viewers that players who prove themselves in college were a better investment than those with mere "potential," such as Jennings.

First of all, our guess is that Vitale had never seen Jennings play. Call it hunch. Also, it's easy to criticize now after Jennings is averaging 24 points, including dropping 55 on Golden State last Saturday. But that Dick doesn't seem to consider Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony when he makes these absurd statements is beyond laughable. They have three years of college between them and are arguably the best four players in the NBA.

  1. berger, we're back on the saddle up here in stumptown. good pick on the arkansas game last week, we liked that one as well. couple of thoughts for you- can navy sustain their triple option attack against hawaii? do they have the pass defence to bottle up the warriors? i like em big here. navy -9. and how about ga tech hosting their in state rivals this weekend? we think jonathan dwyer rushes for 150 with 3 td's in a rout. ga tech -7
