Apologies to all the readers of The Playhouse Saturday. The first edition was horribly written, devoid of a professional edit. Rumor has it that the editorial staff may have rushed to press without sufficient caffeine, apathetic to the mission of this lightly read, low-stakes gambling blog. We did correct it in the middle of the day, but there's no excuse for lackluster writing. On behalf of The Playhouse, we apologize.

Now that we got that out of the way, The Crew had a very disappointing day, going 1-2, once again dropping the ball on the Super Play. Let the record show, however, we did imply an opposite bet there may not have been the worse idea ever.

Couple tidbits before we get to The (not so) Super Play...

On paper, this week's slate of college games were very, very ordinary. In reality, they were perhaps the most important in determining who will ultimately play for the BCS championship.

Contenders Oklahoma St, Oklahoma and Oregon all went down, leaving three SEC teams, LSU, Alabama and Arkansas in the catbird seat. (Raise your hand, by the way, if you thought Arkansas, which plays LSU this week, would control their own destiny when you woke up Friday morning. If you did, you are either a) lying or b) regretful that you didn't throw down at 20-1, which was the payout at the start of the day. It'll be closer to 7-1 now)...

Speaking of Arkansas vs. LSU, sources tell The Playhouse the Tigers will open as a 12-point favorite...

A $100 money line parlay at the Vegas Hilton on Iowa St (+2500), USC (+525) and Baylor (+525) would have paid out $101,562.50...

Arizona St. will be looking for a new football coach after this season. Sure, they'll play in a bowl for the first time in three seasons, and actually still have a chance to win the Pac 12 South. But a lot more was expected from Dennis Erickson and his team this season, especially after a 6-2 start. If losses to UCLA and Washington St really hurt, losing to Arizona was the killer. If ASU AD Lisa Love has any sense she was on the phone with Houston coach Kevin Sumlin during halftime last night...

After last week, NFL favorites are 205-205-9 over the last two seasons. The oddsmakers have a pretty good idea of what they are doing...

The 49ers opened 150/1 to win the Super Bowl. This morning they are 8/1...

Super Play of the Day

We don't like the Bears, their fans or Jay Cutler. But there's something off about this line, like there's something the bookmakers know that we don't. Or perhaps it's just that Vegas loves the Chargers for some reason. Whatever the case, it seems short to us considering the way Chicago is playing. Bears -3.5.

Other plays

Cardinals +10
Bills +3
