The Crew had a great day Sunday, going 3-0, including the Super Play of the Day, which is now 12-7-1 for the year. With any discipline, we'd be doing quite well, but let's get real, we once bet on the Family Feud, so it's safe to assume that the Super Play makes up a very small percentage of our total bets. Still, if you have been following those -- and there's no way you have been -- you are doing well, too.

A couple thoughts/stats before getting to this week's Super Play of the Day...

A quick comment on the big breaking news this morning. Word is that Biebs and Selena Gomez have called it quits. Huge mistake. We don't care who you are, dogg, you're not going to do much better than that. Ever since she became legal a couple years ago, Gomez has been a big favorite of The Crew. We are here for you, girl...

Reports surfaced this week that USC had fired a student manager for deflating balls below regulation levels during the Trojans' loss to Oregon. The very likable Lane Kiffin denied USC coaches or players had any knowledge, telling ESPN that the school's compliance department thoroughly researched the incident and concluded the manager acted alone

"They don't know why he did it," Kiffin said. "Matt Barkley was questioned in this as well, obviously. He had no knowledge of this at all."

Of course he didn't. As the quarterback, Barkley telling this poor kid, even with a wink and nod, that deflated balls are far easier to both throw and catch is pretty far fetched indeed. Rather, it's very likely that this kid was simply the Holden Caulfield of football managers, a rogue, angst-ridden teen endeavoring to act on his own accord out of too far too much societal alienation, and ultimately there was really nothing SC could have done to stop it. Or it could be that Lane Kiffin is an asshole. Either way...

The Los Angeles Lakers fired Mike Brown Friday morning, parting ways with the coach only five games into his second season with the team. The Los Angeles Times reported that the Lakers contacted Phil Jackson later in that evening to gauge his interest in returning to the sidelines -- a report that is even less believable than Matt Barkley didn't know a team manager was deflating footballs to aid USC's offense.

There's absolutely no doubt the two sides have talked. That's a fact, and we're not disputing it.  The notion, however, they those talks were broached Friday night, after Brown was axed, is absurd. Jackson not only lives in the Los Angeles area during the winter, but he also happens to be having sex with the owner's daughter, and it's impossible to believe that there was not at least some back-channel communication before last night. The Lakers are not the Jacksonville Jaguars. They know what they are doing...

The Playhouse is holding its Fall corporate outing this evening at Century Link Field, the site of a momentous Pac-12 showdown featuring Washington and Utah. When these teams get together, just throw out the records. It's that intense. But knowing that a possible trip to the New Mexico Bowl is on the line, these two college football giants are sure to put on a show. And with temperatures expected to drop into the mid 30s by game's end, it all sounds very pleasant for those of us who grew up in Arizona...

Speaking of the weather in the state of Washington, the forecast in Pullman tonight calls for temperatures in the low 30s, with wind chills in the teens. Yes, the Cougars are terrible, but dudes from So Cal are not used to rolling in that weather. A play on UCLA tonight makes less sense than breaking up with Selena Gomez...

Not convinced this prospect is physically ready for the week-in-week-out grind of the NFL, but there's no doubt she has a 'good motor' and is 'great in space.' ...

Playing basketball on a boat is a nice gesture to the troops, but it's a terrible idea. Please stop...

Apparently some dude who works in the University of Iowa athletics department has been slinging his Hawkeye tickets for sex...
