After a well-deserved day off, JBP is back with three can't-miss Saturday plays. But, first, we'd be remiss if we didn't touch on tonight's big upset in the Big East, where Marquette, which had won 12 in a row, fell as an 9.5-point favorite at South Florida. It just goes to show: Never touch big road favorites, regardless of the circumstances. You may make money from time to time but never over the long haul.
JBP to date: 33-19 (63.5 percent)
Today's plays: Arizona -4 @ Oregon; Mississippi +6.5 vs. Vanderbilt; Tennessee -3.5 @ Auburn
Oregon has lost 10 in a row,12 of 14 overall and have dropped their last five home games by an average of 13.6 points per contest. Thursday, they were uncompetitive against ASU, which was playing without starter Rihard Kuksiks and plagued by foul trouble throughout. Arizona is nothing to get excited about on the road, coming into the game with a 1-6 record on the road. The Wildcats, however, have won four in a row and possess a considerable talent edge, especially inside with Jordan Hill.
The days of Vanderbilt playing a pressing defense and shooting lights out from the outside are gone. This current bunch struggles in both regards. In their last two home games, the 'Dores were blown out by Florida and had to comeback to beat reeling Alabama on Wednesday night. Mississippi has won three in a row, including a nice home win against Kentucky 10 days ago and thrashing of Auburn Wednesday.
After losing a couple games in a row, Tennessee rebounded nicely by throughly outplaying Florida last weekend at home and winning at Arkansas, a place where Oklahoma suffered its own defeat. Auburn for some reason played Texas Pan America 10 days ago, winning by only three, and lost to Vanderbilt at home before getting drilled on the road by Ole Miss.
