Picked up Phil Steele's college football preview on my day off on Wednesday. Steele has a reputation for being one of the most astute college football minds in the country, especially when it comes to gambling.
How, I don't know, because he's a terrible writer and his editor is much worse, neither seeming to know what a comma is or how a hyphen is used. It is, in fact, maddening to read. I literally couldn't concentrate on the material, instead spending most of my time correcting the mistakes in order to make it somewhat coherent.
On top of that, most of the observations/predictions he makes are patently obvious, to the point of being undeniable. He likes Washington, for instance, to be an improved team this season. Phil's really going out on a limb there -- the Huskies didn't win a game last year.
He also favors Tim Tebow to win the Heisman and thinks that teams that play a soft schedule have better chance at success than those who play difficult ones. Wow, that's some special stuff.
Suffice to say, there are better nine-dollar investments to made, one which would be three bottles of Boone's Farm.
