The Playhouse Super Play of the Day
South Carolina @ Georgia
"Yeah, this is the Head Ball Coach. I told you he could really go." Too bad for Steve Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks that was only a commercial. Spurrier, once considered the most acute offensive mind in college football, has very few guys who "can really go" -- at least on offense.
A different story altogether is the defense, a unit which, in large part, has been the strength of Spurrier's teams since he arrived in Columbia to much fanfare in 2005 (Though he has not been diagnosed, experts believe Spurrier may suffer from Brian Billick Syndrome, a rare but painful disorder that attacks head coaches once perceived to be offensive geniuses who win in spite their team's offensive play, not because of it). Last week was no different, as South Carolina beat North Carolina St. despite the offense mustering just seven points and 190 yards.
Georgia showed against Oklahoma State's sieve-like defense that it isn't exactly great on offense, either. Of course, gone are first round picks Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno. However, after scoring a touchdown of their opening drive, the Bulldogs were basically impotent for three quarters on Saturday.
Factor in that left tackle Trinton Sturdivant sustained a season-ending injury for the second year in row and that starting QB Joe Cox sat out of practice Wednesday with a sore shoulder, and we just can't see too many points being put up in this contest. This total is a gift. Under 39.5
