The Crew placed a tourniquet on a hemorrhaging wound Friday, getting a much-needed win with NC State, who closed as an eight-point dog after getting hit hard with public money up until the tip. Usually that's scenario in which we would try to shy away, but we thought -- and were ultimately validated -- that the Wolfpack would make it ugly enough to keep it within in the number.

A quick thought, a couple stats and good link before getting to the Super Play of the Day...

Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), who is chairman of the Judiciary Committee, wants to set up hearings to investigate bounties in professional sports after the NFL Wednesday hammered the New Orleans Saints for their involvement in a pay-for-injury scheme during the 2010 season.

Either Durbin is the world's largest ass, desperate for attention or totally addle minded. Our guess is that it's a little bit of all of the above.

According to a recent Gallup poll, Congress has an approval rating of 12 percent, which means it's only slightly more popular than al-Qeada, pedophiles and Goldman Sachs. Based on Durbin's proposal, however, 12 percent might be entirely too high.

We are on the record as saying The Playhouse will never be a place for politics, but we also think reasonable people can agree that this would be an outrageous waste of the Senate's time, which would be far better spent tackling issues such as Social Security, education or even something as frivolous as the deficit...

Thanks to our friend, pregame.com's RJ Bell, who pointed out that the higher seed is favored in both games today, and in three of the four games in this round...

Florida backers will be going up against it today, as not only is Billy Donovan 0-6 against Rick Pitino, but according to ESPN Stats Info, no. 7 seeds are 0-6 in the Elite Eight since 1985...

Great stuff from Caesar's sportsbook director Todd Fuhrman, who breaks down how bookmakers deal with unbalanced action...

Super Play of the Day

We'll go against history today and take the Gators -2.
