Three Super Plays so far this year in college basketball and three losers so far this year in college basketball. The only thing more frustrating than losing money on this tournament is having to watch it. With the exception of Florida Gulf Coast and perhaps the antics of Ole Miss' Marshall Henderson, the last two days have been devoid of compelling story lines. Very mediocre basketball, however, has been plentiful. On Friday alone, Wisconsin shot 14-58, while Illinois went nearly 12 minutes without a field goal -- and still won. Then UCLA took the court, much to the horror of America. Even so, because we're degenerate gamblers, we'll put in another 12 hours of work today. Couple brief thoughts:

  • Just off the top of our heads, Gonzaga is 0-2 (Butler and Illinois) versus the remaining teams in the field, and coming into the tournament their most impressive wins came against Oklahoma St, who got rolled by Oregon, and K-State, who was once down nearly 20 to LaSalle. Obviously, they can silence all the critics by  continuing to win, but these set of numbers, coupled with their uneven performance against Southern on Thursday, doesn't exactly inspire confidence as the Bulldogs take on Wichita St this afternoon.
  • Reggie Miller, who once said the Western Conference residing Memphis Grizzles were his darkhouse team in the East, commented on air yesterday that he expected Florida Gulf Coast to be favored against either Oklahoma or San Diego St Sunday. Not quite. The line opened FGCU +8.
