Today we are basking in the glow.  Not from a strong performance last week, because, obviously, with a 1-4-1 record we can't do that. No, The Crew is riding high this morning after our Salpointe "mighty, mighty" Lancers laid a beatdown on St. Mary's, 41-3, last night to advance to the second round of the 5A-I state playoffs in Arizona. If our boys make it to the finals, The Crew will have to think about making a roadie.

On a serious note, a little comment about this week's big news, the ongoing saga surrounding the recruitment of Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. This kid started out with academic fraud, moved on to burglary and topped it off with a little extortion. These are not youthful indiscretions, inevitable mistakes made by most of us that are part of growing up and becoming adults. Rather, these are repeated and massive lapses in judgement by someone who doesn't in any way, shape or form to be anything resembling good person. Cam Newton and his family rubs.

SUPER PLAY OF THE DAY

Why does Notre Dame still have a football program? They can't recruit elite athletes, they lose to teams like Tulsa at home and they can't keep the people around the team alive. Yes, Utah is coming off a humiliating loss to TCU at home. But let's face it, the Horned Frogs might be the best team in the country. The Irish will be without a number of players (ordinarily, we'd call them 'key' players, but when you are as bad as they are, there is no such thing), including starting quarterback Dane Crist. Even with him Crist, however, 37 percent of their plays have gone either for no yards or negative yards. The Utes bounce back. Utah -5.5.

OTHER PLAYS

Georgia +8
UNLV +4.5
