December 19, 2009

Today is a packed sports day, with lots of opportunities to make some gains -- particularly in college hoops.

Super Play of the Day

Wyoming, ranked no. 99 in the Sagarin ratings, has as much business being in a bowl as Mark Ingram had winning the Heisman. Fresno, for their part, is hardly 2001 Miami, but they should be able to move the ball at will against the Cowboys, using a heavy dose of Ryan Matthews, the nation's leading rusher. Fresno St. -10.5

Other plays

North Carolina +6.5 (college hoops)
Portland St. +9.5 (college hoops)
New Orleans -7.5 (NFL)

Record to date: 47-43-1 (52 percent)

Most Insufferable Sports Personality of the Week

ESPN's Colin Cowherd, who may soon be up for a lifetime achievement award in this catergory, for saying he "knew" it would end poorly for Chris Henry. Cowherd made his comments mere hours following Henry's death Thursday after he fell out of the back of a moving pick-up truck.

Cowherd, of course, is the same guy who after former Redskins safety Sean Taylor was killed said it was due to Taylor's background, most likely his ties to gangs. It was determined that is was a random robbery.

You'd think dude would learn to keep his ever-widening trap shut in cases such as this. Apparently not. Yet another reason not to watch ESPN.
