Despite a remarkable run of success dating back to last year, The Crew really doesn't have a clue what it is doing. Look no further than last week's Super Play, which we locked in months ago, taking Clemson +1.5 vs. Georgia. At the time, we not only were convinced that the Tigers would eventually go off as the favorite but we spent weeks patting ourselves on the back for 'getting the best number.'

Savvy forecast.

The line, of course, went in the other direction and eventually settled at +3, as much of the money came in on the Bulldogs. And while we'd like to say that our initial instincts were confirmed by the result, the fact remains that we got a terrible number and it could have easily cost us money. Just the latest example why no one should be following our bets, ever.

A brief thought and a picture of a hot mom before getting to the Super Play of the Day...

Clay Travis of Outkick the Coverage and Fox Sports wrote a column that got a little national run Monday, declaring that Johnny Manziel's persona has become so prodigious that he has evolved into our 'own national Rorschach test.' According to Travis - who is a talented writer despite his outsized ego - your opinion of Johnny Football is far more a reflection of you than it is of him.

Travis says there are four different schools of thought on Manziel:

  • Pedantic rule followers - These types are likely to hate Manziel due to his improvisational style.
  • Individualist - They love Manziel and are not the least bit concerned that he sometimes elevates himself over the team with some of his antics
  • Texas A&M fans - Manziel could murder someone and he'd still have their support.
  • Jealous class antagonists - They'll never embrace him because he's white, rich and entitled.

Though its not groundbreaking insight (you could essentially say the same about a broad range of media, sports and political figures) to a very large degree much of the above is true. Manziel is a polarizing guy, and for whatever reason (ESPN) he elicits a wide range of emotions from various groups of people.

But what Travis' analysis ignores is that not everyone has a strong opinion about Johnny Manziel. It's hard to believe, especially in a culture that is increasingly defined by extreme elements, but there are actually people who don't care about him one way or the other.

Call it the fifth school of thought: He's absolutely petulant and definitely spoiled, but overall these people are not terribly troubled by him or the way he conducts himself on the field.

Those who feel this way are likely to believe that at his age they wouldn't have handled instant fame any better than Manziel did, and even more likely to think that those who say they would have are complete assholes.

But that's beside the point. Ultimately, anyone without an agenda knows that Manziel no more or less offensive than half the guys who play major college football. He just happens to get a hell of lot more attention. Leave the kid alone and let him play...
