FEB. 13, 2009

Disappointing night at the offices last night. First, Montana St. (+5) was basically uncompetitive against a short-handed NAU squad with virtually nothing to play for. Then, Gonzaga (-4.5) looked to be in good position, up seven with under a minute left, but a flurry of missed free throws and two three-pointers by the Gaels -- the last of which banked in -- took some money out of our pockets. Thanks to Arizona, who came back late to cover in a see-saw game, the night was not a total disaster, however.

JBP to date: 41- 25 (62.1 percent)
Today's play: Villanova +4

The Wildcats are playing lights out, putting triple digits in their last two games, home wins against Syracuse and Marquette. West Virginia has, for the most part, been a solid home team this season. Still, against the best competition the Big East has to offer -- namely, UConn and Pitt -- the Mountaineers haven't been able to get the job done. We're not saying that Villanova is on par with those teams, but we do like a team playing this well getting points.
