December 27, 2009

The Playhouse, clearly, needed some time off to recharge its proverbial batteries. After a couple solid months, the inevitable happened, with the crew losing six consecutive games. Yes, six.

Anytime your involved in the high-stakes business of low-stakes sports gambling, a run like that is bound to happen. The only thing you can wish for is that over the course of the year the highs will out number the lows. In our case, unfortunately, they have evened out -- which is no way to make money.

But a new, more profitable year is around the corner -- and it's starts today.

Super Play of the Day

With Ben Roethisberger at the helm, the Steelers are a high-scoring, pass-first offense. And without Troy Polamalu manning the back end of their defense, they are ripe to be scored on themselves. Baltimore and Pittsburgh played a relatively low scoring game a few weeks ago, but Roethisberger didn't play in that one. Look for this baby to soar over the posted total. Ravens-Steelers over 42

Other plays

Miami -3
Redskins +7

Most absurd thing of the week

Anyone who suggested current Mississippi St. coach and former Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen should be a candidate to succeed Urban Meyer. Yes, Mullen knows the system and is familiar to the school president and Florida AD Jeremy Foley.

Florida, however, might be the best job in the country, and there is no way it can be handed to someone who has not demonstrated they can lead a program of that stature. It'd be like giving the job to Ron Zook. Oh, wait.
