Disappointing 1-2 day in The Playhouse yesterday, with our only win coming on a hook with Mississippi St, which as a 17.5 -point dog lost by 17 to Alabama. Our recent personnel change seems to have had little impact on our prospects so far. We will, of course, give it more time, but we are perilously close to becoming an opposite bet shop, meaning you should take the other side our plays and put the house on them.

Couple thoughts before we get to what is becoming the not so super Super Play of the Day...

We didn't want to comment on this again today, but the disconnect between the people in State College and the rest of the country concerning Joe Paterno is stunning. The folks who yesterday held up 'This one is for Joe' signs or gathered in front of his house should be ashamed of themselves. Again, like we said, this is a man who turned a blind eye to the actions of an alleged pedophile for more than a decade. That's not someone for whom you pay homage or dedicate a game. Poor, old Joe is going to be fine. Pay homage to the victims, losers...

Another group of people who should be ashamed of themselves is Arizona State, which last night got ambushed by Washington State. Redshirt freshman Connor Halliday, who had thrown a total of 19 passes coming into the game, whipped it around for 494 yards and four touchdowns against a clueless Sun Devil secondary. Amazingly, if ASU were to win out, they'd still likely play in the Pac-12 Championship game -- which a testament to exactly how bad the Pac-12 South is this year...

Oklahoma St quarterback Brandon Weeden had a huge day yesterday, and not just because he threw for 423 yards and five touchdowns in the Cowboys' 66-6 win over Texas Tech (Incidentally, a very loyal reader of The Playhouse yesterday recommended a play on the Red Raiders +19). He also scored big when both Andrew Luck of Stanford and Boise's Kellen Moore went down in defeat, perhaps making the 54-year old Weeden the Heisman front runner...

Speaking of Boise, yesterday marked the fourth straight week a team in the top 10 team has lost to a team that was unranked. Three of the four losses have come at home...

NFL overs were 38-24-2 through week 4 and 26-39-1 since, proving once again there's a reason Vegas will take your bets -- and it's not because the public wins...

Super Play of the Day

We don't like the Jets, their fans or the fact that ESPN covers them like they have won four our of the last five Super Bowls. We do, however, like that they have found their identity once again. After thinking Mark Sanchez was Aaron Rodgers and giving him free reign to throw it all around the lot, they have become a run-first, ball-control offense once again. That bodes well as they take on the defensively-challenged Patriots tonight. New England's red-zone defense has allowed 18 touchdowns and 155 points this season. Only the winless Colts are worse. Take advantage of this really short number.

Jets -2
