The Crew had a decidedly poor day Saturday, going 1-2, falling just short on the Super Play of the Day in heartbreaking fashion. With Oregon State, 15.5 point chalk over Washington State, ahead by ten late in the fourth quarter, Beavers cornerback Jordan Poyer intercepted a pass in the flat and appeared headed for pick six and Playhouse cover. Then dude tripped over his own feet and fell on his face near the 20-yard line, where Oregon State gained one first down and preceded to run out the clock, unfurling a string of expletives from The Playhouse executive committee.  Thanks for nothing, Mike Riley. No one cares if you happen to be the nicest guy in sports -- cover the spread!! Still, the Super Play remains a very respectable 7-4-1 for the year.

We continued to badly underestimate Notre Dame, which embarrassed not only Miami, 41-3, but us, who for some unknown reason played the Hurricanes +14. The day would have been a total disaster if not for Florida, which cashed as two-point home dog, and the administrator of The Playhouse Twitter account, who most of the time is wildly unbalanced, not to mention an almost automatic fade. He somehow managed to gin up some side profits throughout the day, including a fairly significant halftime bet on Arizona. As Arizona State alums it's always somewhat difficult to bet the Wildcats, who are loathsome and offensive, but money is money, and you should bet against your mother if you have an edge, so don't be a moralist.

A couple hastily put together and entirely ripped off stats before getting to The Super Play of the Day...

The Saints, a three-point favorite Sunday at home against San Diego tonight, are the largest Week 5 winless favorite over a team with a winning record in more than 20 years, according to RJ Bell of pregame.com...

Also from RJ Bell, the Bengals have covered just three of their last 16 games as a home favorite. Cincinnati is a -3.5 today against the visiting Dolphins. The Playhouse, which bristles at overwhelming numbers such as these, will, of course, be on the Bengals...

Per the Elias Sports Bureau, the Cardinals last Sunday vs. the Dolphins won for only the tenth time in 225 games when trailing by at least 13 points at halftime. Per The Playhouse, the Cardinals' offensive line is awful...

If you haven't already, start betting NFL underdogs, who are 37-22-4 ATS through Week 4. Naturally, The Playhouse will not be heeding our own advice...

Pittsburgh has won nine in row ATS following a loss, via Covers.com. The Steelers are 3.5-point chalk today against Philly...

Former Caesar's sportsbook director Todd Fuhrman says the sharp money today is on Pittsburgh (-3.5), Indy (+7), Tennessee (+5.5) and Miami (at +3.5, which is not a universal number; some have it at +3) and Seattle (+3), while the squares are throwing down on Atlanta (-3), Green Bay (-7), the Giants (+8), Baltimore (-6.5), Chicago (-6) and Houston (-8)...

Super Play of the Day

Minnesota -5.5
