Another day, another Super Play cashed for The Crew, which took a flier on Northern Illinois, an easy, 55-24 winner over Central Michigan at home as a 10-point favorite. For the year, the Super Play is a totally unsustainable 7-2-1. Conversely, our 'other plays' have been dreadful, and we are not taking the time to compile our record on those, because they should be ignored.

A couple thoughts/stats before getting to Sunday's Super Play of the Day...

The Playhouse got some heat via Twitter for what we wrote Saturday about Arizona State, receiving two or perhaps even three direct messages calling us out for telling everyone to steer clear of the Sun Devils, who somehow won a road game yesterday. At least two other people sent us texts expressing a similar sentiment.

It's pretty simple, anytime time there's that type of overwhelming response, you know you have an obligation to acknowledge your critics. To be clear, we never advocated betting on Cal. We simply said that based on their history of being a train wreck, the Sun Devils were unreliable as road favorites and by playing them you were taking an extraordinary risk, an opinion we continue to hold this morning.

It'll take a lot more than an uneven win against a Cal team with zero discipline to convince us that laying points with ASU on the road is a good idea. That said, as alums, we were very happy with the win, and we are calling our shot right now: ASU will beat Oregon in Tempe on October 18...

West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith put up video game numbers Saturday, completing 45 of 51 passes for 656 yards and eight touchdowns to help the Mountaineers defeat Baylor, 70-63. By comparison Baylor quarterback Nick Florence was awful, throwing for paltry 591 yards and only five scores. On both sides, six different players went over 100 yards receiving, and according to RJ Bell of pregame.com it was the fourth highest scoring game since 1980.

The national narrative was that it was profoundly entertaining, even classic game. Bullshit. It was awful. Defenses that let dudes amble unmolested down the middle of the field on every play is every bit as bad as watching Big Ten teams continually struggle to string more than two first downs together. That's not to say that Smith is overrated or undeserving of Heisman consideration. But please don't mistake a high-scoring game for a good game. West Virginia-Baylor was the former, not the latter...

According to former Caesar's sportsbook director Todd Fuhrman, the sharp money Sunday is coming in on Buffalo (+4.5), Carolina (+7) and Miami (+6), while the squares are piling on Arizona (-4.5), Atlanta (-7), Patriots (-4.5) and Bengals (+1)...

Super Play of the Day

Arizona -4.5

Quick note: Line move to the Dolphins in this game is insane to us. Yes, we are Cards fans, and we don't usually advocate betting on your team, but much like last week with the Eagles, this number is off by at least four points. A rookie quarterback on the road playing against one of the best, if not the best defense in the league, and considering the Cardinals have won seven in row at home and ten of 12 overall going back to last year, this one is an easy call.

other picks (ignore these)

San Fran -4
St Louis +3
